Sault Ste. Marie, MI – The economy prompted the most submissions to Lake Superior State University's 2010 list of banished words. The 35th annual List of Words Banished from the Queen's English for Mis-use, Over-use, and General Uselessness came out January 1st.
"Shovel-ready"--meaning a project that's ready to begin--topped this year's list. Other words and phrases people wanted to drop include "transparency," "czar," "tweet," "friending," "stimulus," and "toxic assets."
Tom Pink is the Director of Public Relations at LSSU. He says it's amazing how passionate people are when it comes to the list. Pink says callers can easily fill an hour-long radio show, talking about words or phrases that drive them crazy.
