Marquette up for top distinctive destination

By Nicole Walton

Marquette, MI – Although the City of Marquette has been named one of a Dozen Distinctive Destinations by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, there's an even higher honor to attain.

Residents can now vote for their number one favorite destination online. City officials are urging residents to go to www.preservationnation.org, click on "Dozen Distinctive Destinations," and vote for Marquette, which is running a close race with Rockland, Maine. The winner of the vote will be announced online March 1st.

Officials say being designated the favorite spot in the nation for 2010 would boost tourism and economic development.
