Ishpeming, MI – The NICE Community School District has entered into an agreement with Finlandia University to provide college credit for a core class taught at Westwood High School. Students who earn 90% or higher in Algebra 3/Trigonometry will receive 4-credits for Finlandia's Math 145 College Algebra at no cost. Nice Superintendent Michael Haynes says the articulation agreement is one of the first of its kind in Michigan. He says awarding college credit for passing the higher-level math class will inspire students to explore opportunities in higher education.
The Nice district also has agreements with Northern Michigan University and Bay de Noc Community College for Westwood students to earn 12 to 18 credits for career and technical education courses.
