Marquette, MI – An event designed to raise awareness of cyclists on roadways is being held in Marquette. The Ride of Silence is a quiet procession to honor fellow cyclists who have been killed or injured on public roadways.
The KMK Cycling Club is hosting a 6.5-mile ride from Mattson Lower Harbor Park, along Lakeshore Boulevard, Fair Avenue, and Wright Street, then to Washington, Front, and Main Streets back to the park.
Officials say they want to create awareness that cyclists are part of the traveling public, and to spread the message of "Share the Road" and safe cycling practices.
A brief ceremony begins at 6:45 p.m. at Mattson Park's Kids Cove, followed by the ride at 7 p.m.
