Bracelet leads to walkaway from Palmer nursing home

By Nicole Walton

Palmer, MI – Officials are crediting a bracelet for saving the life of an elderly Palmer nursing home resident.

The Marquette County Sheriff's Department was called around 5 p.m. Monday to the Warner Creek Residential Care Home on a report that an 87-year-old woman had wandered away.

The woman reportedly suffered from dementia and was wearing a Life Tracker bracelet, which started broadcasting a signal to a search team around 6:15 p.m. Shortly afterward searchers found the woman about 1.6 miles northeast of the facility in thick woods and rough terrain. Police say she was disoriented but in good condition.

The Sheriff's Department was assisted in the search by several citizens, the Richmond Township First Responders, and the Hiawatha Amateur Radio Association Rapid Response Team.
