UNDATED – Upper Peninsula residents are being reminded to prepare for the upcoming winter season. Governor Jennifer Granholm, in an effort to raise awareness, has declared November 7th through the 13th Winter Hazards Awareness Week. Last year, the U.P. made the list of the top 15 locations with unusually warm winters and snowfall far below normal. This unique change in weather patterns was known as El Nino. The upcoming winter season is expected to be much different and is being called La Nina. La Nina is interpreted as colder than normal temperatures and higher levels of snowfall. Some ways to prepare include having a safety kit in your vehicle and making sure to have warm clothing available at all times. For more information and tips go to www.weather.gov/mqt.
