Undated – Republican Governor-elect Rick Snyder spent nearly $11 million in his successful race for the state's top job.
Campaign finance reports filed Thursday show the Ann Arbor venture capitalist raised $12.4 million and received $144,000 in in-kind contributions as of November 22. He owes a total of $6.1 million, but most of that is the nearly $6 million he gave his campaign. He was a former executive at computer maker Gateway before forming two venture capital companies.
Snyder beat four opponents in the GOP primary before besting Democratic Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero in the November election. He didn't take any money from political action committees but received many large donations from business executives.
Bernero's campaign finance report wasn't yet available Thursday evening.
Snyder will become governor on January 1.
