Stabenow divorce final last May

By Associated Press

Undated – Court records say U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow and her husband were divorced, 15 months after he was caught in a hotel tryst with a prostitute.

The Detroit Free Press said Sunday it viewed court records showing that an Eaton County judge on May 28 made the divorce final between the Michigan Democrat and Tom Athans.

Police in the Detroit suburb of Troy stopped Athans on February 26, 2008, after he left a Troy motel. Police had been conducting surveillance there on Alycia Martin for suspected prostitution. Athans says he paid martin $150 dollars for sex. He wasn't charged, and he testified against the then 21-year-old woman. She was sentenced to probation for trespassing.

Athans and Stabenow were married for about six years. He's a radio producer.
