MGH named one of 50 top cardiac hospitals in U.S.

By Nicole Walton

Marquette, MI – Marquette General Hospital has risen even higher in the ranks of cardiovascular care.

Normally in the top 100, MGH has been chosen as one of the 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals in the country by Thomson Reuters.

MGH and Superior Health Partners CEO Gary Muller says he thinks the hospital's care will only improve, now that Marquette General has established a new protocol for heart patients. Under the procedure patients will bypass emergency departments and go directly to the MGH Cath Lab for treatment, saving precious time.

"In other words, there's no need to stop at the Bell ER or others in the U.P. when you have just seconds and minutes, actually, to get people treated, and the new protocol actually is something that will make our care even better than it was in the past," he says.

Muller says Thomson Reuters evaluated 5,000 hospitals, 1,000 of which offer high-level cardiac services. Criteria included quality, cost per discharge, mortality after intervention, and length of stay.
