K.I. Sawyer, MI – The K.I. Sawyer Community Center has avoided the auction block.
At a meeting Thursday night, West Branch Township officials approved the sale of the "W" to the group Community Hand-UP for $85,000.
The group will use $75,000 provided by the Marquette County Board as collateral, and will put $5,000 down to keep the W from being auctioned off as planned Saturday.
Community Hand-UP has been trying to raise money to buy the building for some time. Officials say they're pleased with the move, and say they need the community's continued involvement to keep the center open.
The group hopes to reopen the W by late summer or early fall.
