Mackinac conference interrupts legislative session

By Associated Press

Undated – Sessions of the Michigan Legislature will be briefly interrupted by the Detroit Regional Chamber's annual policy conference on Mackinac Island.

The House and Senate won't have their regular sessions Thursday because many lawmakers are attending the conference. Legislative sessions will resume next week. Both the Senate and House held session on Wednesday.

Lawmakers are ahead of schedule on much of their work and can afford the missed day of session. They've already finished work on the major budget bills connected to the state fiscal year beginning October 1.

Lawmakers are discussing some business while on Mackinac Island. One of the hottest issues is whether to support a second Detroit-to-Canada bridge as proposed by Governor Rick Snyder.
