Poisoned WI eagles released into wild

By Associated Press

Antigo, WI – Seven bald eagles are back in the wild nearly two months after ingesting a deadly poison at a Northern Wisconsin landfill.

With scores of onlookers watching, Marge Gibson and her staff at Antigo's Raptor Education Center released the eagles Wednesday. Gibson's staff rescued the eagles after they were accidentally poisoned at an Eagle River landfill in April.

The Antigo Daily Journal reports the mass poisoning may be the largest documented event of its type in recent U.S. history.

Initially there were eight eagles at the site. But one flew away and was later found dead.
