Marquette Regional History Center to honor 2 next week

MARQUETTE, MI— Two people will be recognized at this year’s Marquette Regional History Center awards ceremony.

Normally, the Helen Longyear Paul award is given to an individual for their research achievements and the Peter White award to an organization, but no organizations were nominated this year.

Receiving a Helen Longyear Paul award for 2023 will be Virginia Paulson and Bill Van Kosky. Paulson has 30 years of service with the Negaunee Historical Society and Van Kosky volunteers at the Marquette Regional History Center. He has also investigated and identified Native American trail marker trees in Marquette County.

The ceremony takes place February 28th at 6:30 p.m. at the center.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
