Marquette restaurant owner looking for historical artifacts

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Marquette restaurant owner wants to recreate history at the Lower Harbor.

Joe Constance is owner of the space that was formerly L’Attitude.  He says the original building constructed in 1872 was called the Iron Bay Foundry, so the new place will be called the Iron Bay Restaurant.  It’s gone through various incarnations through the years, and Constance is looking for items over that time to include in the establishment’s décor.

“We want to bring forth all of the history—everything that’s been in that building, which is a railroad depot, a computer place, a railroad passenger station, three different dance halls were there—and so there’s so much history, so many cool things that happened there,” he says.

Constance says the world’s first outboard motor was invented in the building, and it would be nice to have one of them in the restaurant.  He’s also looking for dance hall photos and other artifacts.

Anyone willing to donate or sell items can contact Constance at joe@mqt1.com or call 906-361-9736.

Constance says he’s aiming to reopen the restaurant in late April.
