DETROIT, MI (MPRN)-- A well-known Metro Detroit-based furniture chain is closing its doors after 61 years.
Art Van announced Thursday that it will liquidate all of its merchandise and shutter its stores.
The company was started by Art Van Elslander in 1959. It was sold to a private equity company in 2017.
Charles Ballard is an economics professor at Michigan State University. He says many Michigan retailers are not thriving.
“The Michigan economy has not been growing very rapidly and I think it's obviously that's a cause for concern, especially since it looks like the entire national economy is going to over the next several months have much slower growths due to the coronavirus.”
Art Van’s liquidation sale begins Friday and runs through May.
