Meeting addressing future business, energy to be held in Harris

Facebook

HARRIS, MI— The Upper Peninsula Construction Council and Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council are holding a meeting about the Future of Energy and Industry in the U.P. Thursday.

Leadership from major U.P. industries are attending. UPCC Executive Director Mike Smith says participants will discuss propane use and how power will be generated in the region under the state’s new Green Law.

“Just want our industry folks to be prepared so that they can make plans for what industry’s going to look like in the U.P. in the not-so-distant future.”

Ryan Stern is a staff representative for the Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council. He says Upper Peninsula leaders need to figure out how to encourage business growth and keep young people in the area.

“What are we going to do to make sure that we have energy, we have electricity, propane, we have the people to do it, and where we’re going in the U.P. And is there any legislation issues that we currently have that we need to work on to make the U.P. a better place for industry.”

Thursday’s event will be emceed by CEO of InvestUP, Marty Fittante. It takes place at the Island Resort and Casino in Harris.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
