IRON MOUNTAIN, MI— Summer tourism is going very well in the Upper Peninsula.
That’s according to Tom Nemacheck, Executive Director of the Upper Peninsula Travel and Recreation Association. He says while activity is not record-breaking as it was during the pandemic, tourism reports from every region are “great.” Nemacheck says even so, there’s no way to make up for losses businesses endured during the low-snow winter.
“Certainly, a really good summer is going to make a difference for the businesses financially, but as far as, like, if you looked at visitors, you can’t jam a lot more in when summer is as big as it already is.”
Nemacheck says there’s every reason to believe the rest of the summer and fall will be outstanding for U.P. tourism. He notes business has been so good, fall has become almost an extension of summer.
