KMI space-junk-grabbing prototype on International Space Station

NASA

MARQUETTE, MI— Kall Morris Inc (KMI), a Michigan-based leader in space logistics and sustainable orbital operations, proudly announces the successful launch of its REACCH (Responsive Engaging Arms for Captive Care and Handling) prototype aboard the SpaceX CRS-31 mission.

This pivotal mission, launched on November 4, 9:29 EST, 2024, marks a critical milestone in KMI’s journey toward revolutionizing the future of orbital sustainability through innovative technology.

The REACCH payload, now onboard the International Space Station (ISS) as of November 5, 9:52 EST, 2024, represents KMI’s ongoing commitment to reducing space debris and advancing In Space Servicing and Manufacturing (ISAM). Designed as a mechanically articulated end effector, REACCH utilizes gecko-inspired adhesion to secure objects in space without causing damage. This allows it to safely capture and release a variety of objects of nearly any shape, size, or surface condition, providing an essential solution for orbital debris removal.

With this demonstration on the ISS, KMI aims to showcase REACCH’s role in orbital sustainability, with applications spanning relocation of satellites, space asset maintenance, and future debris removal missions. This launch reflects KMI’s broader Active Debris Removal (ADR) and Relocation As A Service (RAAS) approach, leveraging exclusive technologies to
offer reliable debris management solutions to civil, commercial, and national space agencies.

“This mission is a culmination of years of determination, countless hours, and a vision that started as a dream,” said Austin Morris, Co-Founder & Director of Engineering from KMI. “Seeing REACCH launch to the ISS is beyond words - it’s proof that with hard work and relentless commitment to innovation, what once seemed impossible is now within reach. This journey has been one of teamwork and trust, driven by the dedication of our Space Ranger team and the belief of our community and partners. To me, REACCH represents more than just a technological advancement; it’s a beacon of what can be achieved when passion meets purpose, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in space.”

Established in 2019 in Marquette, Michigan, KMI has emerged as a space logistics pioneer, securing over $5 million in funding and partnering with leading space organizations worldwide. With this mission, KMI advances its goal of developing a full-scale debris removal spacecraft, known as Laelaps, reinforcing their commitment to Keeping Space Clear For All.
