DEARBORN, MI— Gas prices in Michigan are up 8 cents from a week ago. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $3.23 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 7 cents less than this time last month and 56 cents less than this time last year.
Motorists are paying an average of $48 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; a discount of about $9 from 2024's highest price last July.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand increased from 8.48 million b/d to 8.96. Total domestic gasoline supply increased from 232.9 million barrels to 231.1. Gasoline production increased, averaging 9.4 million barrels per day.
At the close of Wednesday’s formal trading session, WTI fell 6 cents to settle at $65.25 a barrel. The EIA reports crude oil inventories decreased by 3.2 million barrels from the previous week. At 419 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 9% below the five-year average for this time of year.
"Many drivers across Michigan are seeing higher prices at the pump compared to last week," said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group. "If demand drops, alongside increasing stocks, gas prices could reverse course."
Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price increased slightly. Metro Detroit’s current average is $3.21 per gallon, about 1 cent more than last week’s average but still 51 cents less than this same time last year.
