DEARBORN, MI— Gas prices in Michigan are down 10 cents from a week ago. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $3.13 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 6 cents less than this time last month and 56 cents less than this time last year.

Motorists are paying an average of $46 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; a discount of about $11 from 2024's highest price last July.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand increased from 8.96 million b/d to 9.15. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 231.1 million barrels to 228.4. Gasoline production increased last week, averaging 10 million barrels per day.

At the close of Wednesday’s formal trading session, WTI rose 79 cents to settle at $70 a barrel. The EIA reports crude oil inventories increased by 7.7 million barrels from the previous week. At 426.7 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 6% below the five-year average for this time of year.

"Despite an increase in demand, Michigan drivers are seeing lower gas prices across the state," said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group. "If demand continues to increase, alongside tightening stocks, pump prices may reverse course."

Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price decreased slightly. Metro Detroit’s current average is $3.19 per gallon, about 2 cents less than last week’s average and 50 cents less than this same time last year.
