NMU student sentenced for contempt of court

MARQUETTE, MI--   A former Northern Michigan University football player has been sentenced to jail on a contempt charge.

Prince Young originally pleaded guilty to assault and battery for hitting a woman at the Vera Bar in Marquette in January of last year.  His sentence included paying $4,600 for the victim’s medical bills.

When Young didn’t pay on time he was charged with contempt of court.  Young pleaded guilty to that charge, too, and was sentenced Thursday to 30 days in jail.  He’ll serve his time at a date yet to be determined.  Young is currently a full-time student at NMU.

Young has since paid the medical costs, but still has to pay $1,500 in other fines and costs.  He could spend more time in jail if he doesn’t pay them by September 20.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
