Preliminary exam scheduled for accused torturers

ESCANABA, MI-- A preliminary hearing has been set for an Escanaba couple accused of torturing a boy.

Susan Bardo, 46, and Carl Pellinen, 47, are charged with first-degree child abuse, first-degree criminal sexual conduct, and torture.

Police found the 15-year-old boy living in an 8- by 10-foot room lined with tarps on the 1500 block of North 20^th Street last week. Interviews and evidence

recovered during a search led to the arrest of the boy’s mother and her boyfriend.

Bardo and Pellinen remain lodged in the Delta County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond each.

Their combined preliminary hearing is set for April 25 in Delta County District Court.
