Hearings set for Iron River murder suspect

CRYSTAL FALLS, MI--   Court dates have been set for an Iron River woman charged in the death of a three-month-old baby.

Officials say Brittany Lyn Russell, 25, was caring for PennyAnne MacDonald at Russell’s home June 24 when the infant was injured.  The baby was taken to NorthStar Hospital in Iron River, then flown to Milwaukee Children’s Hospital.  She died three days later.

Russell is charged with murder.  A probable cause hearing is set for April 15, while a preliminary exam is scheduled for April 20 in Iron County District Court.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
