Reckless driver arraigned in Houghton

HOUGHTON, MI--   A Houghton man has been arraigned in connection with a reckless driving crash in Calumet Township May 21. 

Twenty-seven-year-old Ayoub Al-Hamdan allegedly led police on a high-speed chase on M-26 and US-41, then crashed his car into a pickup truck in Calumet Township.  The car rolled over and landed on its roof on the sidewalk. 

Al-Hamdan got out of the vehicle under his own power.  The driver of the truck sought his own treatment for non-serious injuries. 

Al-Hamdan is charged with misdemeanor reckless driving, punishable by up to 93 days in jail and a $500 fine.  A pretrial hearing is set for July 6. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
