Child abuse suspect in court

MARQUETTE, MI--   A West Branch Township man accused of torturing a three-month-old baby has been bound over to circuit court.

Nicholas Racine, 37, is charged with torture and first-degree child abuse.

A doctor says the infant had cracked ribs, head trauma, bruised eyes, and a possible bite mark on his arm when Racine was arrested in June.  She says the injuries indicate the abuse happened on at least three separate occasions.

The baby is recovering with his mother.

Circuit court arraignment for Racine is set for July 24.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
