Zintman on trial for arson, murder

MARQUETTE, MI--   Trial has begun in the case of a Sawyer man whose girlfriend died in a house fire he allegedly set.

Steven Zintman, 46, is charged with murder and first-degree arson.  He is accused of setting the fire in his Forsyth Township home in May of 2014 while his girlfriend, Sally Plume, was still inside.  He initially stated no one was in the house but later admitted Plume was in the master bedroom.

Jurors heard opening statements Monday, then the prosecution started presenting its case.

Forsyth Township officers and fire experts are expected to take the stand this week.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
