Gorney sentenced for M-94 crash

MANISTIQUE, MI--   A Manistique woman has been sentenced for causing a June accident that injured an Illinois couple.

Theresa Gorney, 32, pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle while intoxicated, causing serious injury.  She was sentenced Thursday to a year in the Schoolcraft County Jail and must pay $10,000 restitution.  She was credited with 179 days already served.

Gorney says she tried to overdose on drugs the day before the head-on crash on M-94.  She claims she doesn’t remember the accident.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
