Trial slated for former Houghton coach

HOUGHTON, MI--   Trial is scheduled for a former Houghton High School track and football coach accused of possessing child pornography. 

Don Sawaski, 71, is charged with two counts of possession of child sexually abusive material and one count of using a computer to commit a crime. 

In January Sawaski was arrested in Colorado as a fugitive from justice.  He was being investigated for sexually assaulting male athletes from the 1970s through the early 1990s and for having child porn on his computer. 

Trial is set for November 14 in Houghton County Circuit Court.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
