Marquette assault suspect sentenced

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Marquette man has been given a stricter sentence, after he agreed to a plea deal for assault.

David Hunter, 21, was arrested along with another man last January following an assault at Coco’s Restaurant in Marquette.  He pleaded no contest to aggravated assault in return for a sentence of 12 months’ probation.

Judge Karl Weber, however, disagreed with the deal, saying it was too lenient.  He sentenced Hunter Thursday to four days in the Marquette County Jail, 12 months’ probation, and $1,000 in fines and restitution. Hunter must also write the victim a letter of apology.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
