April trial date set for Saario

CRYSTAL FALLS, MI--   A trial date has been set for an Iron County man charged in the shooting death of his stepdaughter.

Alfred Saario, 65, of Alpha is charged with homicide—open murder and discharging a firearm indoors resulting in death in the June 2016 killing of Jamie Lee James.

WLUC-TV says the results of Saario’s criminal responsibility evaluation are now available, and the defense is studying the report to determine if they’ll claim Saario was legally insane when the crime was committed.

Trial is set for April 24 in Iron County Circuit Court.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
