Finnerty sentenced on home invasion charge

ESCANABA, MI--   Instead of going on trial this week, an Escanaba man was instead sentenced on home invasion charges.

Harley Finnerty, 25, was arrested in June on the 1400 block of North 20th Street following the report of a break-in. Finnerty was allegedly found rummaging through a vehicle when officers arrived.

He was originally charged with second-degree home invasion, attempted second-degree home invasion, breaking and entering with damage to property, and two counts of stealing property less than $200.

Trial was scheduled to begin Thursday, but Finnerty pleaded no contest to second-degree home invasion and the other charges were dropped.

Finnerty was sentenced this week to 36 months to 15 years in prison with credit for 233 days already served.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
