DeValle not guilty of attempted murder

MARQUETTE, MI--   A sentencing date has not yet been set for a Sawyer man found guilty of strangling his girlfriend but not guilty of attempted murder.

Steven DeValle, 42, was arrested July 4 after a woman said he had choked her and prevented her from using a cell phone to call 911. He was charged with attempted murder, assault by strangulation, fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, and interfering with electronic communications, causing injury or death.

DeValle stood trial last week in Marquette County Circuit Court. The jury found him not guilty of the attempted murder and CSC charges, but guilty of the strangulation and communications charges.

He faces up to 14 years in prison.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
