Woman charged in death of toddler bound over in Baraga County

BARAGA, MI--   A L’Anse woman accused of killing a 2-year-old boy has been bound over to circuit court.

Genevieve Meyers, 37, is charged with homicide-felony murder in the death of her nephew Walker Meyers. On December 23, 2017 the unresponsive boy was brought to Baraga County Memorial Hospital by Genevieve Meyers—his aunt and legal guardian. Walker was flown to Milwaukee Children’s Hospital, where he died of his injuries.

Medical experts determined the toddler’s death was due to abuse. Genevieve Meyers was arrested exactly one year after her nephew died.

She remains lodged in the Baraga County Jail on a $1 million bond.

Arraignment is set for March 5 in Baraga County Circuit Court.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
