Menominee man faces up to life in prison on home invasion conviction

MENOMINEE, MI— A jury found a Menominee man guilty of charges related to home invasion following a three-day trial last week.

Menominee County Prosecutor Jeffrey Rogg says Michael Bertrand, 38, was convicted last week of second-degree home invasion, false report of a felony, and malicious destruction of property. He was accused of breaking into a Stephenson home in May of last year and stealing more than $7,000 worth of property.

Sheriff’s deputies identified an orange Chevy Cobalt registered to Bertrand, as well as documents bearing his name, at the scene. Bertrand falsely reported his car had been stolen.

An accomplice testified against Bertrand at trial in exchange for a reduced charge.

Bertrand was on parole for a prior felony conviction when he committed the new offenses. He faces up to life in prison as a habitual fourth offender.

Sentencing is set for October 22nd .
