Carney man sentenced for larceny, cutting GPS tether

MENOMINEE, MI— A Menominee County man could spend up to five years in prison, following his sentencing on larceny and other felonies Friday.

Eric Laurin, 39, of Carney was charged with larceny of a firearm, two counts of receiving and concealing stolen property, $1,000 to $20,000, and tampering with EMC equipment.

Laurin was identified as a suspect and arrested for a number of property thefts in northern Menominee County in January of this year. He was required to wear a GPS tether and be on house arrest as part of his bond. In March, Laurin removed the tether and hid from police.

Judge Mary Barglind sentenced Laurin to 30 months to five years in prison.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
