Man charged with first-degree murder headed to Houghton County Circuit Court

HOUGHTON, MI— A Houghton man has been bound over to circuit court for murder.

Evan Dixon, 60, is charged with first-degree murder and felony firearms. He’s accused of shooting Theron Duncan, 53, in the Douglass House Saloon bathroom last November.

Dixon underwent a competency exam in January and was found competent to stand trial. Because he was a former attorney in Houghton County, a visiting judge will likely be assigned to the case.

Dixon waived his preliminary exam. A circuit court arraignment date has not yet been set.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
