State Supreme Court to hear oral arguments on case in Marquette this month

MARQUETTE, MI— The Michigan Supreme Court is coming to Marquette later this month as part of its “Court Community Connections” program.

Justices will hear oral arguments in People versus Jeffery Scott Armstrong at Northern Michigan University. Students from eight Marquette County high schools will attend the session. They’ll be debriefed by Supreme Court Chief Commissioner Daniel C. Brubaker before and after oral arguments.

Invited schools include:

Father Marquette School
Gwinn High School
Ishpeming High School
Marquette High School
Negaunee High School
North Star Academy
Republic/Michigamme School
Westwood High School

The event also includes a community activity led by the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Drummers.

The Court started the program in 2007 as a public education opportunity aimed primarily at high school students.

It takes place Wednesday, September 24th at NMU’s Northern Center.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
