Man sentenced on multiple eastern UP drug cases

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— A former downstate man has been sentenced on two separate drug-related cases in Chippewa County.

Brian Hicks, 35, was sentenced in the first case Monday to 30 years in prison for two counts of delivery of methamphetamine. In the second case, Hicks was sentenced to 30 years for possession with intent to deliver more than 50 grams of cocaine.

He will serve both sentences concurrently and will not be eligible for parole for 10 years.

Officials say Hicks moved from Lincoln Park to the U.P., where he became a drug dealer. He sold meth and cocaine in the Kinross area, including out of Clyde’s Restaurant in Kinross.

Hicks also faces meth charges in Mackinac County.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
