Tavaris Jackson trial delayed

Tavaris Jackson

ESCANABA, MI— Trial for an Escanaba man accused of killing a woman who was 7 months pregnant has been stayed, pending the outcome of an appeal.

Tavaris Jackson, 33, is charged with open murder, assault of a pregnant individual intentionally causing miscarriage/stillbirth, and felony firearms. Harley Corwin, 22, was found dead in Ford River Township in July of 2023.

The Michigan Attorney General’s Office is serving as special prosecutor in the case. Delta County Prosecutor Lauren Wickman found shoes critical to the case and directed officers to them. The defense says that makes Wickman a witness and she may have to be cross-examined.

WLUC-TV says Jackson’s trial was originally set for January 13, but the defense is appealing a court ruling that limits cross examination to what is pertinent to the case.

Trial is stayed pending the outcome of the appeal.
