Gwinn assault suspect arraigned following alleged assault with firearm

MARQUETTE, MI— A Gwinn man has been arraigned on two felonies following an assault of his girlfriend Monday night.

Louis Hemphill, 31, was charged Tuesday with assault with a dangerous weapon and aggravated domestic violence.

He was arrested by Michigan State Police early Tuesday morning at a KI Sawyer residence after he allegedly assaulted his significant other with a pistol. She was taken to UPHS-Marquette and is in stable condition.

Hemphill remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

A probable cause conference is set for March 13 and a preliminary hearing for March 19 in Marquette County District Court.
