Former Wisconsin Supreme Court justice who led 2020 election probe agrees to surrender law license

MADISON, WI (AP)— A former Wisconsin Supreme Court justice who spread election conspiracies and led an investigation into President Donald Trump's loss in the 2020 election has agreed to surrender his law license for three years.

The decision aims to settle allegations he violated multiple rules of conduct during the probe.

The state Office of Lawyer Regulation filed a 10-count complaint in November against Michael Gableman, accusing him of making false statements, disrupting a court hearing, questioning a judge's integrity, and making derogatory remarks about opposing attorneys.

The OLR and Gableman reached a deal Monday in which they agreed an appropriate sanction would be to suspend Gableman's law license for three years. A referee and the Supreme Court must approve the deal before it can take effect.
