NMU administration responds to potential lawsuit

MARQUETTE, MI— Northern Michigan University officials have responded to a Notice of Intent to file a lawsuit by a former dean.

Dr. Christine Greer filed the document this week. It says Greer suffered age and sex discrimination by former president Brock Tessman.

On Wednesday, university spokesman Derek Hall issued the following statement:

“Northern Michigan University is aware of the Notice of Intent filed by Dr. Greer. The University takes all reports of discrimination, harassment or retaliation seriously. In this case, the University engaged a third-party investigator to review the investigation and believes the inquiry was thoroughly conducted and was unbiased, fulsome and sincere. At the end of the process, the investigator did not make any findings and the University fully agrees with the determinations in the report. The University will not make further comment on the possibility of pending litigation, but is prepared to defend any litigation.”

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
