Man gets 5-15 years in prison for threatening Chippewa County officials

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— A Sault Ste. Marie man has been sentenced for threatening a Chippewa County judge and prosecuting attorney.

Clifford Milam, 26, was sentenced Tuesday to 5 to 15 years in prison. He pled no contest in December to attempted false report or threat of terrorism as a habitual fourth offender.

In February 2024 Milam threatened the lives of an assistant prosecuting attorney in the Chippewa County Prosecutor’s Office and a 50th Circuit Court judge who were handling cases against him.

Milam is currently serving 3 to 10 years in the Newberry Correctional Facility for assault and domestic violence-third offense. His sentences will run concurrently.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
