Woman charged in Escanaba stabbing found competent to stand trial for the crime

ESCANABA, MI— An Escanaba woman has been found competent to stand trial for stabbing another woman over the summer.

On August 11, Public Safety officers were called to Fairview Estates on a report of an assault in progress. They found the victim at a neighbor’s residence. She had suffered numerous stab wounds.

The suspect later turned herself in at the Escanaba Department of Public Safety.

Crystalyn Knuth is charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder or by strangulation.

Last week, a forensic psychiatrist found Knuth able to understand the charges against her and participate in a trial.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
