Menominee reckless driver sentenced for fleeing and eluding

MENOMINEE, MI— A Menominee man could spend up to five years in prison for fleeing and eluding a police officer.

Last April 4, an officer with the Menominee Police Department observed a vehicle squealing its tires on First Street downtown. When the officer tried to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed down the roadway and sidewalk of Sixth Street.

The vehicle traveled three blocks before rolling to a stop at 7th Street and 11th Avenue.

The driver was identified as Brandon Bowers, 36. He pleaded guilty in October to a felony charge of fleeing and eluding and a misdemeanor count of reckless driving.

Bowers was sentenced Tuesday to 16 months to five years in prison.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
