Federal judge dismisses attempt to obtain Michigan voter data in latest rejection of DOJ

GRAND RAPIDS, MI (AP)— A federal judge in Michigan has dismissed a lawsuit brought by the Department of Justice that sought to obtain access to Michigan's voter rolls.

It marks the latest setback to President Donald Trump's administration as it seeks voter data from a variety of states.

The Department of Justice has sued at least 23 states and the District of Columbia in an effort to collect data on voters. The judge, a Trump nominee in the Western District of Michigan, issued a ruling Tuesday that concluded that the laws cited by the Justice Department do not require the disclosure of the records sought.
