MUNISING, MI— An Alger County man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for breaking into a Munising restaurant and a residence in two separate cases.

In January 2025, Corey Morrison was charged with second-degree home invasion and fourth-degree child abuse after he entered a Munising family’s house with the intent to commit larceny. He pleaded guilty to those charges.

Morrison also pleaded guilty to breaking and entering with intent to commit larceny in a companion case from November 2024. He entered Earl-E-Byrd’s restaurant, broke into a safe, and stole a significant amount of money.

Morrison was also charged as a habitual offender. He was sentenced last Friday.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
