SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— A man convicted of second-degree murder in a police chase that claimed the life of a Sault Ste. Marie woman has been sentenced to 60 to 90 years in prison.

In June of 2021, Tanner Harrison, 42, was seen running vehicles off the road on M-129 near Pickford. He cut off and threatened another driver, then headed toward the Soo at speeds exceeding 90 miles per hour.

Katie Robinson, 20, was northbound on Ashmun Street in her Volkswagen Beetle when Harris’ truck rear-ended it at 88 miles per hour. Her car was propelled into a power pole and Robinson was ejected. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

At sentencing Tuesday, Judge James Lambros said the case was horrific, stating there was no doubt Harrison intended to harm someone that day.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
