Chippewa County man convicted to getting minor drunk and sexually assaulting her

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— A jury has found a Chippewa County man guilty of criminal sexual conduct and furnishing alcohol to a minor, following a two-day trial.

Robert Ross, 42, was accused of giving a 16-year-old girl alcohol, then sexually assaulting her when she fell unconscious due to her level of intoxication. The victim testified she woke up to Ross assaulting her.

Ross was found guilty of felony third-degree criminal sexual conduct—sexual penetration with a person who was physically helpless, fourth-degree CSC—sexual contact with a person who was physically helpless—a high court misdemeanor—and furnishing alcohol to a minor, a misdemeanor.

He faces up to 17 years in prison. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
