MENOMINEE, MI— A man has been sentenced for stealing items from a Menominee home.

In October of last year, Jeffrey Donner, 40, of Menominee was caught fleeing from a home on the 2100 of 15th Avenue. He was carrying property stolen from the residence. The home was temporarily vacant while its 69-year-old owner was undergoing treatment at a nursing home.

Among the items stolen were rare coins, cash saved for funeral expenses, weapons, and a Purple Heart earned by the homeowner’s father during World War II.

Donner was sentenced Monday to 29 months to 5 years in prison for third-degree home invasion and 29 months to 10 years for possession of meth. The sentences will run concurrently.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
